چكيده
Helping students learn English in a better and easier way is one of the primary goals of teaching English as a foreign language. Culture plays a significant role in the successful acquisition of language and is an essential component in the study of any language. Consequently, the researcher found it imperative to consider culture while investigating the efficacy of utilizing culturally focused texts in enhancing the willingness to communicate (WTC) among Iranian learners of English as a foreign language (EFL). A quasi pretest-post test experimental design was implemented in which the participants consisted of three groups. The control group received instructions via traditional methods in accordance with their established schedule and program. In contrast, the experimental group utilized one English culture-oriented text and two Persian culture-oriented texts as the primary reading materials in ten sessions. The objective of this approach was to examine whether these instructions had any influence on the subjects' willingness to communicate (WTC). In order to assess the advancement in within-test consistency among the participants within the different groups, as well as to mitigate any potential influence of the initial differences, a one-way analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was conducted. The findings of the study demonstrated that both experimental groups experienced positive outcomes as a result of their instructional interventions, leading to an enhancement in their willingness to communicate (WTC) when compared to the control group. However, upon conducting a more detailed examination, it was determined that the distinction between English and Persian culture did not yield a statistically significant variance in the improvement of the learners' WTC. The findings of the present study might have valuable implications for those who are involved in teaching and learning English.
