چكيده
A concept map typically represents ideas and information as boxes or circles, which it connects with labeled arrows in a downward-branching hierarchical structure. It was supposed that concept mapping strategy is an influential method to teach new words. Due to the importance of concept-mapping, the current study aimed at investigating the role of concept mapping in vocabulary learning of technical vocabulary to Iranian airline technicians. The null hypothesis claimed that concept mapping strategy has no effect on learning technical vocabulary by Iranian airline technicians. To test this hypothesis, 60 male and female translators of Mehrabad and Imam Khomeini's airline centers were selected based on convenience sampling and divided into two groups. The concept-mapping group received the treatment based on Davis’s concept-map (2010) and the control group received explicit technical vocabulary teaching. The results demonstrated that airline translators in concept-mapping group outperformed the conventional vocabulary learning group in technical vocabulary learning. One of the implications of this study is for teachers to apply concept-mapping strategies in teaching new words in general and technical words in particular.
