This study aimed at investigating the impact of applying Fill-in-the map and Construct-a-map techniques on EFL learners’ accurate use of tenses in writing. One hundred fifty female intermediate EFL learners were chosen from a language school named Gholshan in Ardabil in order to conduct the study. The average age of the participants was 20 and their mother tongue language was Azari. Then a proficiency test was conducted in order to check the homogeneity of the participants. The achieved results from the administration of the proficiency test verified that only 90 of those students could be selected as the homogenous participants of the study. Then, they were randomly assigned to three groups of equally the same size, (i.e., 30) namely: two experimental groups and a control group. After that all of the groups were asked to sit for a pre-test. Next, the first experimental group was treated with fill-in-the map techniques, the second experimental group with construct-a-map techniques, and the control group with traditional method of teaching. Then a post-test was conducted and a week later a delayed post-test was administered. The data were collected through a pre-test, a post-test, and a delayed post-test. A Split-plot ANOVA was run in order to compare the mean score of the groups and a Bonferroni post hoc test was conducted in order to find out which specific means were significantly different from the others. The findings of this study revealed that the group of students who received fill-in-the map techniques outperformed all the other groups. Moreover, the group of participants who received construct-a-map techniques outperformed the participants in the control group.
