Research in Second Language Acquisition (SLA) is widening and deepening its scope. In order not to be overwhelmed by its rapid growth, the field is in need of systematic Meta studies to put the research trend into perspective. As such, the current project was an attempt to explore SLA research orientations as evidenced in a corpus of 144 papers in three Elmi-Perjooheshi (EP) Journals in Iran published during 2018-2021. First of all, a two-dimensional checklist encompassing various domains of interest as well as language skills and sub skills was developed by the researcher. Inter-coder reliability was computed using Cohen’s’ Kappa and internal consistency of the checklist was calculated using Cronbach alpha. Some other factors including research methodology and authors’ affiliation were also investigated. The results indicated that SLA research in the corresponding journals has placed more importance to teaching factors including teaching strategies and teacher education than to learning factors such as learner language, learner characteristics and cognitive processes. As far as research methods are concerned, the tendency to employ quantitative, experimental research design is still the dominant trend. The findings would be of interest to researchers and editorial boards of EP Journals in the country.
