چكيده
The purpose of this study has been examining the relationship between teaching core functional discourse markers (so. You know, well, and right) and speaking fluency of Iranian EFL learners at intermediate proficiency level. Participants of the study were 40 non-native EFL male learners of an institution in Talesh whose dominated language is Persian. A Straight- forward placement test has been administered to learners studying English language in that institute in advance, then forty intermediate Learners have been selected based on the results of the Test. Twenty of the participants, based on a random selection, were regarded to be the experimental group and the features of DMs were taught to them beside their textbooks in a short period of time. After treatment, an oral examination was implemented and the voices of the two groups were recorded for scoring. The inter raters scored the voices by counting DMs used in the speaking exam. The gathered results rejected the null hypothesis and suggested that there has been a meaningful and significant relationship between teaching core functional DMs and speaking fluency of Iranian intermediate EFL students.
