چكيده
This study was designed to investigate the process of homework assigning in EFL conversation classes at the intermediate level. To this end, 12 female teachers who were teaching in Bayan English institute were selected based on convenience sampling. The study started with pilot observations and interviews to learn more about different aspects of homework assignment in the institute. This information was used to develop a questionnaire as well as an observation checklist to gain knowledge of the teachersʹ beliefs and attitude toward homework. The questionnaire used for this study consisted of 22 items focused on teachers’ attitudes toward homework using a five-point Likert scale and was adapted from Wiesenthal, Cooper, Greenblatt, and Marcus’s, (1997) Homework Attitude and Behavior Inventory for Teachers (HABIT). The participants were asked about their homework implementation practices, and their attitudes toward homework. Finally, it was revealed that different factors contributed to the way teachers assign homework including their own attitude toward assigning homework, learning strategy training, institute’s policy, and the role of book.
