چكيده
The current study was conducted to seek if using multimedia courseware package as an aid-instruction tool to teach and learn English combining with teacher instruction in comparison to the traditional teacher-led instruction would help the students to be more successful in vocabulary learning. This study used quasi-experimental research method and the subjects were among high school students of third grade in Sarpole Zahab, a town in Kermanshah Province in the west part of Iran. The students were selected and assigned randomly into two groups as: Control and Experimental. Pilot studies of vocabulary item test and survey questionnaire were administered in order to make sure measurement tools are valid and reliable. This showed that assessment tools were strongly reliable and valid. Moreover, the students took an Oxford Placement Test to be at the same level of English language proficiency and also a pretest to distinguish known words from unknown words to be included in posttest exam and to make sure that students were homogeneous. Then, both groups underwent treatment for three months, a session per week. The experimental(multimedia-based) group were taught English vocabulary items by the teacher using a multimedia courseware including an aid-instructional book, a DVD for the students to be used in class and at home as a supplementary source of learning along with their formal book and a teaching software called "English 3 Made Easy" for teacher use whereas the control group was instructed by the teacher using traditional method. After the treatment period, immediate and delayed posttest displayed the superiority of multimedia-based instruction (blending method) over traditional teaching method of vocabulary teaching. A TAM-Based survey and an interview were done to find out students ʹattitude toward using multimedia in their teaching and learning tasks.
