چكيده
Willingness to communicate is the most basic orientation toward communication. Almost anyone is likely to respond to a direct question, but many will not continue or initiate interaction. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of interaction type on raising WTC in Iranian EFL learners. The participants of this study were male students from a language institute in Rasht, Iran, with the range of 15 to 25 years at upper-intermediate level who were homogenized through QPT. Next, 28 participants were selected with respect to their proficiency level. Then, the researcher divided them into two groups: one experimental group and one control group; each group included 14 participants. The control group practiced textual interaction which mostly included interactions focusing on linguistic features of communication and conversational adjustments (such as comprehension checks, confirmation checks, summary telling, discourse correction, sentence-completion interaction etc.). The experimental group, on the other hand, practiced interpersonal interaction consisting of communicating on the basis of participants’ ability to form and maintain public relationships with others (activities such as sharing personal experiences, discussing general knowledge, sharing likes & dislikes, talking about favorites/interests etc.). The results of the findings showed that the experimental group developed a higher willingness to communicate (WTC).
