چكيده
Acknowledging teachers’ guides (TGs) as indispensable massively published components of today’s coursebook packages, sheds light on their importance in EFL teaching. Nonetheless, they have received not much of recognition in research on their evaluation in the literature. Obviously, the TG is a great resource for instructors particularly for the inexperienced teachers by providing directions essential to a successful utilization of the coursebook and the whole package. Realizing the void in the related literature the present study was conducted to report the findings of a comparison involving two TGs’ evaluations according to ratings of teachers with different duration of teaching experience through a questionnaire with four different sections toward answering three research questions and ten assumptions. To this aim, the TGs of Iranian newly published English learning packages of Prospect for the aim of secondary school and the second edition of Top Notch fundamentals’ and first level‘s TGs were evaluated separately by a validated questionnaire distributed among 110 teachers. Accordingly, 55 official (in service/off service) teachers rated their view of Prospect’s TG besides the other 55 Academic Center of Education, Culture, and Research’s teachers proposed their view on Top Notch’s TG. The obtained results revealed that the Prospect’s TG fails to assist novice teachers; additionally, the two TGs might suffer some deficiencies, which should be addressed in order to have an effective TG for the teachers in this context. It is worthwhile to state that implying TG evaluation is beneficial in showing whether TGs are actually helping teachers or not, as they pertain to accomplish.
