چكيده
Having been an important part of human culture for more than 2,500 years, Theater has evolved a wide range of different theories and practices. Some are related to political or spiritual ideologies, while others are based purely on artistic concerns. Some processes focus on a story, some on theater as event, and some on theater as catalyst for social change. The classical Greek philosopher Aristotleʹs Poetics is the earliest surviving example and its arguments have influenced theories of theater ever since. Although Aristotleʹs Poetics is universally acknowledged in the critical tradition, the pivotal and innovative contributions of the 19th-century Norwegian dramatist Henrik Ibsen, as a pioneer, and other 20th-century playwrights have remained at the core of Modern Theater. The present thesis tries to show the contribution of the four great playwrights in the development of Modern Theater.
