چكيده
Supplementary books have crucial function in teaching English for high school students in Iran. Therefore, so many students learning guide are published in Iran. These guidebooks may have some effects on the students learning strategies which should be analyzed.
The intent of the present study was to analyze the relationship between using supplementary books in first grade high school students and their learning strategies. The finding of the study revealed that after examining 145 students, 120 of them are using the supplementary books. The most frequently-used learning guide among student was Ghanbari’s book by about 37.50 % of the students.
After interviewing of 15 English language teachers, their comments were categorized in two parts of positive and negative attitude toward using supplementary book. By using 7-item Likert-scale questionnaire, students showed their positive attitudes toward using supplementary book as an alternative for teachers at home. The Strategy Categorization table of Oʹ Malley et al. (1985) was used in this study.
The book entitled Ranamaye gam be gam-e zaban-e Englisi 1 by Ghanbari (2012) was evaluated based on Ghorbani’s (2011) textbook evaluation checklist.
