چكيده
The current research investigated the relationship between spelling and pronunciation in Iranian EFL learners. Sixty male and female Iranian students who were studying English at intermediate level participated in this research. A Quick Oxford Placement Test (QOPT) was also conducted in order to homogenize the entire sample of the participants in this investigation as a group of intermediate EFL learners. A correlational research design was used for evaluating the relationship between pronunciation and spelling in EFL learners, and two tests including a pronunciation test and a spelling test were developed by the researcher for measuring the corresponding sub-skills. A Pearson correlation test was run to evaluate the degree of correlation between the performances of EFL learners in the two tests. According to the results of this investigation, the relationship between the spelling and pronunciation of the Iranian EFL learners was significant. The results also confirmed the results of previous studies in that it might be helpful for English language learners to have a good knowledge of English sound - letter regularities so that it can facilitate their pronunciation.
