In the most of the classroom researches, the main concentration is on the classrooms and the events that happen during teaching and learning process. One aspect that has been under investigation in this area is “Teacher Talk”. According to Krashen (1981), language acquisition occurs through understanding messages or receiving comprehensible input. So, the amount of input and its adjustment with the proficiency level of learners has an important role in learners’ achievement. The main objective of the present study was the important of teacher talk and its’ relationship with learners’ level of proficiency. In this study, 10 EFL teachers’ classes who taught in both elementary and intermediate levels in Rasht Unique Language Institute were considered as sample size.. All of the classes were observed and recorded by researcher and data were analyzed by EFL experts. In this study four features of teacher talk were considered: rate of speech, code-switching, choosing appropriate vocabulary, and grammar. The results of the data were analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively by comparing the teachers’ talk in elementary versus intermediate levels and analyzing the teachers’ utterances. Pearson Chi-square test followed by Eta test were run for the levels of learners’ language proficiency and features of teacher talk. The results related to qualitative study question showed that in all features of teacher talk, teachers had adjusted their speaking level with the learners’ level of proficiency. The result of quantitative study question indicated that from among four feature of teacher talk vocabulary, grammar and rate of speech used by teacher had statistically significant relationship with student’s proficiency level but in code-switching although there was the relationship but it was not statistically significant.
