چكيده
The first step in listening comparison is to segment connected speech and distinguish words which is called decoding. Failure in decoding step prevents listeners from comprehension before they use top-down strategies and puts more burden on working memory while its capacity should be used for the high level meaning extracting process. This study proposed a way to ease perception difficulties of listening through asynchronous subtitle in which words come one-by-one and most important, immediately after any spoken unit which could include a single word, phrase or simple sentences. Three groups of learners participated in the study: The members of the first group individually watched the film without subtitle and the second group watched the same movie with regular subtitle and the third group watched the same movie with asynchronous subtitle. Analysis through one-way anova test revealed that the third group (asynchronous subtitle) outperformed two other groups and there was not any significant difference between other two groups. Meanwhile, Stimulated Recall protocol revealed that students had an upbeat attitude toward the innovation and found it positive in their L2 listening.
