Investigating the predictive contribution of mother's control of emotions and mother's tendency to power on child's behavioral problems according to the mediating role of mother's obsessive-compulsive symptoms

Behavioral problems stop or impair the child's growth, adaptability, well-being and educational progress and affect her readiness to play a social role correctly.The purpose of this research is to investigate the predictive contribution of emotional control and mother's tendency to power on child's behavioral problems with regard to the mediating role of mother's obsessive-compulsive symptoms. The current research is based on the objective, fundamental, and in terms of the nature and method of data collection, the correlation is of the structural equation modeling type. The statistical population of the present study included all mothers with children between the ages of 8 and 12 who were studying in the elementary schools of district 1 of Isfahan city in the academic year of 1403-1402, 150 people participated in the research as a statistical sample using available sampling method. The tools used were the Williams Affect Control Scale (1997), the Mahdavi and Sabouri Power Structure in the Family Questionnaire (2012), the Rutter-Parent Form-Children's Behavioral Problems Questionnaire (1964) and the Maudsley Obsessive Compulsive Inventory (1977). They were analyzed using descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation) and inferential statistics (Pearson's correlation coefficient and structural equation modeling) by SPSS and AMOS software. The results showed that the mother's emotion control variable has a significant relationship directly with the child's behavioral problems . This is despite the fact that the variable of tendency to power and the mediating variable of mother's practical obsession had no significant relationship with the child's behavioral problems. Also, the two variables of emotional control and mother's tendency to power had the ability to predict mother's obsessive-compulsive disorder(%31) and child's behavioral problems(%17) . Goodness of fit indices supported the optimal fit of the model with the collected data. The findings of the research showed that one of the effective factors in improving children's behavioral problems is intervention to improve mothers' emotion control skills.
