چكيده
The present study examined the effect of nonverbal communication training on intermediate EFL learners' communicative competence and communication apprehension in Zanjan, Iran. To meet this goal, a group of 27 Iranian female intermediate EFL learners who fall within the age range of 13 to 16 were chosen using the convenience sampling method. These learners were then divided into two groups, namely the experimental group and the control group. Using a quasi-experimental design, the experimental groups were administered a total of eight sessions of rigorous training in nonverbal communication. The participants underwent pre and post-tests in the form of self-perceived communication competence (SPCC) and communication apprehension (CA). The results of the independent samples t-test indicated that the experimental group demonstrated significantly higher levels of communicative competence perception compared to the control group while the level of communication apprehension decreased after the nonverbal communication training. The findings suggest that targeted nonverbal communication training can positively influence communicative competence perception and alleviate communication apprehension in speech. In conclusion, the use of non-verbal cues seems to be undeniable in better and enhanced communication the findings have some pedagogical implications for EFL teachers, university instructors, and EFL students.
