Translation, as a science, bridges languages and reduces barriers among languages which is salient in most human contact. One of the branches of translations studies is hermeneutical approach that is in translation being fundamental in comprehending translation process and the result. Due to the importance of translation studies and hermeneutical approach, the current study tried to explore whether the three translators (i.e., Arberry, Shakir, &Saffarzadeh) observe the four hermeneutical canons proposed by Emilio Betti (1980) in translation of the word Al-Sehr in Holy Quran. Furthermore, the study attempted to investigate whether the translators’ understanding and interpretation of the word Al-Sehr corresponds to the interpretation of Ayatollah JavadiAmoli (1999-2016). To this end, the word Al-Sehr, which has appeared in 66 verses of Holy Quran wasere studied by the researcher. The results of qualitative data analysis based on the framework of the study and meeting each criterion (i.e., Betti’s four hermeneutical canons) revealed that both Arberry and Saffarzadeh used the monotonous terms for translating Al-Sehr. However, Shakir used different terms such as enchantment as the other term for magic. In general, the first three canons were observed in the corpus however, the fourth one or hermeneutical correspondence of meaning or harmonization in the translated versions was not observed because the translators used literal translation for rendering the text from Arabic to English. Finally, it could be concluded that the three translators’ understanding and interpretation of the concept of Al-Sehr corresponded to the interpretation of Ayatollah JavadiAmoli and they clearly understood the deep meaning of the word. The study has implications for translators.
