چكيده
With the increasing amount of relationships in this communicative era, the importance of speaking as the main purpose of foreign language learning situations enhances. Therefore, language educators should reassess their teaching approaches toward this skill, and work on the ways that are more fruitful and also enjoyable. This study focusses on two new ways of empowering learners’ speaking ability which decrease their in-class anxiety level, scripted role playing and semi scripted role playing. Anxiety is a factor which many students face as a psychological barrier of expressing oneself. Sixty intermediate EFL learners at the age of 16-20 enrolled in this study, whom their anxiety level and speaking ability were investigated by the use of FLCAS and IELTS interview respectively, before and after the treatment. The findings indicated the positive effects of semi scripted role playing on the reduction of in-class speaking anxiety of learners and empowering learners’ speaking ability.
